The government has expressed its condolences to the family of 15-year-old Ghanaian teenager Javits Frimpong, who was fatally shot by unidentified assailants in the Bronx, New York, while on his way to school on Thursday, October 29.
In a statement issued on October 30, the Ministry of Foreign Affairs disclosed that the sector minister, Samuel Okudzeto Ablakwa, had spoken directly with the teenager's father, Thomas Frimpong, and assured him of the government's support in seeking justice for his son.
"We will pursue justice, and we will make sure that those who did this do not get away with it," the Minister stated.
On behalf of President John Dramani Mahama, Mr Ablakwa conveyed the government's sympathies to the bereaved family, describing the incident as deeply distressing.
"We are all saddened. We are all distraught. He did not deserve this," he said.
The Ministry also disclosed that officials from Ghana's Permanent Mission in New York had visited the family at their residence to express condolences, show solidarity and assure them of the country's support.
The government condemned the killing and called on the relevant authorities in the Bronx to conduct a comprehensive investigation and ensure that those responsible are identified and brought to justice.
The Ministry of Foreign Affairs and Ghana's Permanent Mission in New York pledged to work closely with US authorities in pursuing the matter, adding that they were prepared to provide the family with the necessary legal and consular assistance.
