A 40-year-old man, identified as Roger Borbobli, has been arrested by the police after he was allegedly found with 91 parcels of substances suspected to be Indian hemp at the VIP Bus Terminal at Kwame Nkrumah Circle in Accra.
Borbobli was picked up on Thursday, October 29, 2026, following a tip-off that he had arrived at the terminal with 3 suitcases believed to contain the prohibited substance.
According to preliminary police investigations, some loading boys at the terminal became suspicious after detecting an unusual smell coming from the suitcases and subsequently alerted the police.
Officers from the Police Special Operations Team responded to the information, arrested the suspect and seized the 3 suitcases. A search reportedly uncovered 91 parcels of compressed dried leaves suspected to be Indian hemp, commonly known as wee.
The police statement indicated that Borbobli estimated the value of the seized substances at GH¢33,600.
During interrogation, the suspect reportedly told investigators that he was a farmer from Sovie Kudzra, near Kpando in the Volta Region.
He allegedly admitted cultivating Indian hemp but claimed that the parcels found in his possession had been obtained from another farmer, identified only as Benjamin, from the same community.
Borbobli remains in police custody and is assisting with investigations. The police are also awaiting the results of an analytical examination of the seized exhibits at the Police Forensic Crime Laboratory to establish their composition.
