MTN Ghana has reaffirmed its dedication to advancing digital inclusion, health, education and economic growth as it marks three decades of operation in Ghana under the theme, “30 Years of Progress, Powered by You.”
The commitment was announced by the General Manager for Southern Ghana, Mr. David Gyimah Boadi, during the MTN Ghana Regional Media Stakeholder Forum held in Ho.
According to him, the 30th anniversary is not only a time to celebrate the company’s milestones but also an opportunity to recognize the vital role played by customers, the media, traditional leaders, regulators, state institutions and local communities in its journey.
Mr. Boadi expressed appreciation to the people of the Volta Region for their loyalty and support over the years, emphasizing that MTN remains focused on deepening partnerships that drive development and create opportunities.
Highlighting progress in financial inclusion, he revealed that the value of Mobile Money transactions surged by 44.4 percent year-on-year in the first half of 2026, with transaction volumes and revenue up by 23.3 percent and active users growing by 3.1 percent.
He noted that MoMo has evolved into a key driver of the digital economy, providing individuals and businesses with safe, convenient and inclusive access to financial services.
He however stressed the importance of cybersecurity, cautioning customers to safeguard their PINs, passwords and personal details to avoid falling victim to fraud.
Touching on youth development, Mr. Boadi mentioned flagship interventions such as the 1 Million Coders Programme, MTN Skills Academy and Girls in ICT, which are aimed at equipping young people with digital skills for the future.
He stated that under the Girls in ICT initiative, implemented in the Volta Region in partnership with the Ministry of Communication, Digital Technology and Innovations, 1,000 girls and 100 teachers were trained in ICT, digital literacy and career readiness.
On health, he cited the MTN Ghana Foundation’s contribution to quality healthcare delivery, including the commissioning of a state-of-the-art Accident and Emergency Centre worth GH¢15.4 million at the Ho Teaching Hospital in March this year.
In the area of education, Mr. Boadi disclosed that 230 students have benefited from the MTN Bright Scholarship Scheme, while 500 new scholarships were awarded nationwide this year, covering tuition, accommodation, stipends and laptops. He added that over 100,000 youth have also been trained under the MTN Skills Academy.
He further pointed to platforms such as DigiFest 2026, Techdemia Hackathon and the MTN Game Developer Contest as avenues to nurture innovation, support start-ups and empower young entrepreneurs to showcase their solutions.
Mr. Boadi attributed these social investments to strong business performance, noting that service revenue increased by 32 percent to GH¢15 billion in the first half of 2026, with EBITDA rising by 47.1 percent to GH¢9.3 billion and profit after tax growing by 46.8 percent to GH¢5.1 billion.
He said the company paid GH¢5.6 billion in direct and indirect taxes, plus GH¢384.7 million in regulatory fees and levies, underscoring its role in national development through job creation, infrastructure and community support, while pledging continued efforts to close gaps in access, affordability and digital literacy to ensure no one is left behind.
