Abuakwa State College To Hold 61st Speech And Prize-Giving Day On November 7

Abuakwa State College (ABUSCO), one of Ghana’s longstanding second-cycle educational institutions, is set to hold its 61st Speech and Prize-Giving Day on Saturday, November 7, 2026, at the College Assembly Hall, beginning at 10:00 a.m.

The celebration, which will bring together students, teachers, alumni, parents, traditional authorities and other education stakeholders, will provide an opportunity to recognise academic excellence, reward outstanding achievements and reaffirm the institution’s commitment to character development and quality education.

This year’s event will be held under the theme, “Discipline: A Critical Tool for Holistic Development in the 21st Century,” highlighting the importance of self-control, personal responsibility, integrity and perseverance in preparing young people for the demands of an increasingly competitive world.

At a time when technological advancement, social media and changing societal values are reshaping the educational environment, the theme draws attention to the need for schools to balance academic achievement with moral development, emotional intelligence, leadership and responsible citizenship.

Discipline, in this context, extends beyond obedience to school regulations. It encompasses the ability of students to manage their time, respect others, make informed decisions, demonstrate resilience and pursue excellence through consistent effort.

The occasion is expected to feature two distinguished educationists as keynote speakers. Professor Smile G. Dzisi, Deputy Director-General of the Ghana Technical and Vocational Education and Training Service, is expected to bring her experience in technical education, skills development and educational leadership to discussions on preparing students for the modern economy.

Professor Eric Kwasi Ofori, Vice-Chancellor of Garden City University in Kumasi, is also expected to address participants, drawing on his experience in higher education and institutional leadership.

Their participation is expected to reinforce the importance of connecting secondary education with tertiary education, technical skills, entrepreneurship and national development.

A major highlight of the celebration will be the presentation of prizes to deserving students who have distinguished themselves in academic work, leadership and co-curricular activities. The event will also provide an opportunity to acknowledge the dedication of teachers and other staff whose contributions sustain the College’s educational standards.

For past students, the occasion will serve as another opportunity to reconnect with their alma mater, strengthen alumni relationships and explore ways of supporting the College’s development.

The celebration comes as Abuakwa State College prepares for another significant milestone: its 90th anniversary in October 2027. The forthcoming anniversary offers an opportunity for the school community and alumni to reflect on the institution’s history, celebrate its contributions to Ghanaian education and mobilise support for future development.

Over the decades, ABUSCO has remained an important institution in the educational landscape of the Eastern Region, contributing to the training of generations of students who have pursued careers in public service, education, business, science and other professions.

As preparations advance for the November 7 celebration, the central message remains clear: academic knowledge alone is insufficient to guarantee success without the discipline, ethical values and determination needed to translate learning into meaningful achievement.

The 61st Speech and Prize-Giving Day will therefore be more than an occasion for presenting awards. It will be an opportunity to reaffirm the enduring relevance of discipline in nurturing confident, responsible and productive citizens capable of contributing to Ghana’s development.
