The Ghana Prisons Service has assured the public that it will release the findings of an investigation into allegations that some inmates attempted to poison former Ashanti Regional New Patriotic Party (NPP) Chairman, Bernard Antwi Boasiako, popularly known as Chairman Wontumi.
The Service’s Public Relations Officer, Superintendent Abdul Latif Adamu, said investigations had begun to establish the facts surrounding the allegation and determine whether any individuals were involved.
Speaking on Eyewitness News on Wednesday, October 28, he said the outcome would be made public after the investigation was completed to provide clarity on the circumstances surrounding the alleged incident.
Mr Adamu explained that the matter came to the attention of prison authorities through Chairman Wontumi’s senior aide, Palgrave Boakye Danquah, who raised the concern after visiting him in custody.
According to him, the aide reported the allegation to the Prisons Service administration, prompting authorities to initiate an investigation.
“The issue came to our attention through his aide, who visited him. In the course of their conversation, the matter came up, and the aide quickly brought it to the attention of the Prisons Service administration. When we received the information, we immediately launched an investigation,” he said.
Mr Adamu stressed that the Service was committed to uncovering the truth and ensuring that anyone found responsible was held accountable.
“Very soon, we will release the investigation report to the public so that everyone knows what happened,” he said.
He also assured the public that Chairman Wontumi was safe and in good condition while in custody.
