Being handsome is the entry fee. Staying interesting is the rent.
I read Hollywood profiles of Michael B. Jordan and Trevante Rhodes like case studies. Two fine men, two careers — and not one interview where I had to cover my face and whisper, “So this is what you did with your good looks?”
Ghana has fine boys too. Some need to take notes.
1. Michael B. Jordan: The man who read the assignment
Magazines describe him as an old‑soul leading man. He walks into a shoot like he has already won. No borrowed‑uncle‑suit energy.
But the real work is behind the face. Fruitvale Station to Creed. Then he stepped behind the camera and directed Creed III — which pulled in $276 million worldwide. After that, he built Outlier Society and signed a first‑look deal with Amazon that industry press estimates at eight figures.
That is an empire. While our boys are signing ambassador deals for GH¢15,000 and a free Tecno phone, Jordan is signing checks as a producer.
My favourite part? He keeps his social media small. A lesson from Denzel. In 2026, a man that famous decided that not posting every hour was a business strategy. Some of our celebrities cannot eat jollof without a ring light, a caption, and a link in bio. Mystery is a business plan.
2. Trevante Rhodes: The sprinter who learned to be still
Trevante was a track sprinter — he literally ran for a living. Then Moonlight came, and he broke everyone’s heart by saying almost nothing. It takes real strength to look soft on camera when you have shoulders like a fridge.
What I respect: he said no. Scripts that didn’t fit his vision, he turned down. Imagine — a young, hungry actor saying, “This isn’t it.” At home, we take every role, every “brand influencer” title, every product with a free rice bag.
Then he took Mike Tyson in Mike. You don’t take that role unless you’ve done your homework and your push‑ups.
Now home: Let’s rank it, because we are Ghanaians and we love a list.
I said what I said. Argue with me in the comments.
5. Van Vicker — Tall, calm, mysterious without trying. He has been fine since your auntie was in SHS and never made noise about it.
4. Majid Michel — That serious, soulful look that stopped aunties mid‑sentence in the 90s. He turned it into ministry and still kept the face.
3. Stonebwoy — Found peace, found tailors, found range. He looks expensive now.
2. John Dumelo — Fine since the DVD era. Actor to farmer to MP. You can debate his politics, but you cannot say he doesn’t know how to reinvent. Staying relevant for 20 years is strategy.
1. Chris Attoh — Charm that travels. Accra to Hollywood without shouting. He understood early that fine travels better when it’s quiet.
Honourable mentions who will vex if I leave them: Sarkodie (always looks like he knows what time his meeting is), Black Sherif (made sadness fashionable — a skill), Boris Kodjoe and Idris Elba (our diaspora receipts; Ghanaian blood travels well).
Nigeria? Ramsey Nouah is still the blueprint. Chiwetel Ejiofor can break your heart without raising his voice. But that’s their list to fight over.
The lesson
No magazine is writing 3,000 words about cheekbones alone. They write because these men made choices — picked roles carefully, protected their privacy, built companies, and let the work be louder than the selfie.
Michael B. Jordan and Trevante Rhodes didn’t just keep their faces. They kept their focus.
The face will get you into the room, my brother. What you do after you sit down is what they will write about.
If you disagree with my ranking, good. Send me your own top five. I’ll read it and still say Chris Attoh is winning.
