Good afternoon, Kwame A-Plus. Please, your recent ignoble faux pas, diatribe, and gratuitous screed against the National Democratic Congress (NDC) chairman-general, Johnson Asiedu Nketia (JAN), have caused consternation among many well-meaning intellectuals. Suffice it to say that JAN is advancing in age, as you purported to allude; policy directions and political ideology respect no adult age. Kristalina Georgieva, the current IMF managing director, is a 73-year-old lady. Here is why a JAN-led NDC government would be different from the Nana Akufo-Addo and Dr. Bawumia-led New Patriotic Party (NPP) administration.
Ideological differences: NDC and NPP belong to diametrically different political ideologies. Two main political ideologies govern the world. Left wing, otherwise known as the liberals, and the right wing, otherwise known as the conservatives. The left-wing ideology is shrouded in puritan egalitarian ideals (The belief that all men are created equal and have been bequeathed with inalienable rights). The wing emanated from the French Revolution of 1789 in Europe. In history, sociology, and political science, the left wing is akin to socialism. In economics, it is known as a controlled economy.
The Left wing emanated from social inequalities, political Jacobinism, religious panjandrum, and divine right monarchical absolutism in Europe that operated the right wings. The right-wing political order held the belief that human beings must remain unequal: Some must be more powerful than others. Some must have privileges, and others must be subjected to perpetual servitude. A few oligarchic groups must control the resources of the nations and decide the fate of others. Karl Max classified the few privileged individuals as the bourgeoisie, who never cared about the Proletariat (socioeconomic class of wage earners).
Many European philosophers, such as Denis Diderot, Voltaire, Montesquieu, Jean-Jacques Rousseau, Adam Smith, Karl Max, Max Weber, and others, wrote against the right-wing ideology. In the United States, the Democrats belong to the left wing, and the Republicans belong to the right wing. In Ghana, NDC belongs to the left wing and the NPP belongs to the right-wing political order.
The Right-wing political order must have goaded Nana Akufo-Addo and Dr. Bawumia to appropriate the country’s limited resources for their families and cronies. It partly explains why, in social interventions like the Free Senior High School (SHS) program and the National Buffer Stock program, Nana Addo and Bawumia led the NPP government to create special purpose vehicles like the Free SHS secretariat. The purpose was to make profits. So, you see, any right-wing social intervention is to make wealth for friends and cronies.
JAN or General Mosquito believes in the left-wing ideology wherein he would focus on progressive social change, equality relative to resource distribution, and social welfare. Kwame A-Plus, many people join political parties without understanding the philosophical imperative of the group. Many NPP supporters support the left wing in the USA, but back home in Ghana, they support the right-wing NPP. Such people are ideologically bankrupt. We are motivated to move from a perceived minus situation to a felt plus situation with its attendant final fictive goal by Alfred Adler. The writer supports General-Mosquito for the Presidency.
