The Deputy Chief Executive Officer of the Ghana Tourism Authority (GTA), Gilbert Abeiku Aggrey, popularly known as Abeiku Santana, is set to join global tourism experts, aviation leaders and policymakers for a workshop on improving air connectivity and boosting tourism across Africa.
The two-day virtual workshop, organised by UN Tourism and the African Airlines Association (AFRAA), is scheduled for October 28 and 29, 2026.
It will focus on practical ways to improve air connectivity and travel facilitation to drive tourism growth across the continent.
In a social media post on Monday, October 26, Abeiku Santana expressed excitement about participating in the workshop, saying Africa needed stronger connections to unlock its tourism potential.
“Africa is blessed with extraordinary tourism attractions, diverse cultures, rich heritage, and incredible opportunities,” he stated.
He, however, noted that travelling within the continent remained expensive and complicated for many Africans, despite the region’s tourism potential.
The workshop, held under the theme, “Connecting Africa: Turning Air Connectivity and Travel Facilitation into Tourism Growth,” is expected to explore measures to make travel across African countries easier and more accessible.
He stated that improved air connectivity and simplified travel procedures are important to facilitating tourism, strengthening regional integration and increasing movement between African destinations.
“Let’s connect our skies, open our borders, promote our destinations, and unlock Africa’s tourism potential,” he stated.
