The second batch of recruits of the Ghana Armed Forces (GAF) has reported to various training centres across the country to begin a six-month Basic Military Training programme.
The recruits officially reported to their assigned training centres on Friday, October 23, 2026, according to the GAF in a Facebook post.
They have been posted to five training schools: the Army Recruit Training School, Air Force Recruit Training School, Navy Recruit Training School, Armour Training School and Army Special Operations Training School.
The six-month programme will provide the recruits with intensive military training aimed at developing discipline, professionalism and an understanding of the core values of the Ghana Armed Forces.
As part of the training, they will be instructed in areas including field craft, first aid, weapon handling, drill, map reading and physical training.
The GAF said the programme was designed to equip the recruits with the practical skills and knowledge required to meet the standards of the Armed Forces and uphold its traditions and values.
The training will also prepare them for their future responsibilities and guide them through their respective periods at the various training schools.
Meanwhile, the government has indicated that it will not open applications for fresh recruitment into the various security services in 2027.
Minister for the Interior, Mohammed Muntaka Mubarak, said the decision was to allow the government to focus on clearing the existing backlog of qualified applicants awaiting enlistment.
According to the minister, the decision follows instructions from President John Dramani Mahama, with priority to be given to applicants who have completed the recruitment process and met the requirements but could not be admitted for training due to limited space.
