About 15,000 aspirants are expected to contest for various executive positions in the governing National Democratic Congress (NDC) across 276 constituencies on Saturday, October 24, and Sunday, October 25, 2026.
The elections form part of the party’s internal reorganisation programme ahead of the 2028 general election and are expected to determine the leadership of its constituency structures nationwide.
The NDC Deputy Director of Elections, Mahdi Jibril, disclosed this in an interview with the Daily Graphic, explaining that the exercise would not take place in the Juabeso and Banda constituencies in the Western North and Bono East regions, respectively, because the candidates there were going unopposed.
He said the Ketu South Constituency in the Volta Region would hold its elections on Friday, October 23, a day before the nationwide exercise, following the identification of other activities that could clash with the scheduled dates.
According to Mr Jibril, the national party had approved the adjustment to allow the constituency to conduct its elections without disruption.
Positions at stake
The aspirants are vying for several constituency executive positions, including chairman, vice-chairman, secretary, treasurer, organiser, deputy organiser, communications officer, women’s organiser and youth organiser, among other positions within the party’s structure.
Mr Jibril said the Electoral Commission (EC), working with the party’s election committees in the 276 constituencies, would conduct the elections, while the Ghana Police Service would provide security throughout the exercise.
The elections are expected to produce executives responsible for managing the party’s affairs at the constituency level and coordinating its political and organisational activities.
Regional elections
Following the constituency elections, the NDC is scheduled to hold its regional executive elections on November 14 and 15, 2026.
Mr Jibril said nominations for the regional executive positions opened on October 6 and closed on October 7. Filing of nominations is scheduled for October 14 and 15, followed by vetting on October 16 and 17.
Appeals are scheduled for October 19 and 20, while the Regional Youth and Women Conference will take place on November 13, a day before the regional elections.
National congress
The party’s reorganisation process will culminate in its National Congress on December 19, 2026, when national executive officers will be elected.
According to Mr Jibril, nominations for national executive positions are scheduled to open on October 20 and close on October 21. Aspirants will have 14 days to complete their nomination forms, with the filing period set for November 7 to 9.
Vetting is scheduled for November 12 and 13, while appeals will be heard on November 15 and 16.
The National Youth and Women Conference is expected to take place on December 12.
Mr Jibril said the series of elections formed part of the NDC’s broader effort to renew its leadership structures from the grassroots to the national level as it prepares for the 2028 general election.
