Obuasi SHTS headmaster arrested over sexual misconduct allegations – Muntaka

The headmaster of Obuasi Senior High Technical School (SHTS), Zakaria Abdulai, has been arrested in connection with sexual misconduct allegations involving female students, Interior Minister Mohammed Mubarak Muntaka has disclosed.

Mr Muntaka made the disclosure when he appeared before Parliament's Public Accounts Committee (PAC) on Tuesday, October 20, 2026.

He said the case, which was initially handled at the regional level, had been transferred to the Police Headquarters for further investigation.

According to the minister, the matter came to his attention on September 7 after the Criminal Investigations Department (CID) received a report. He subsequently directed that the investigation be taken over at the national level.

“We’ve been able to get one of the ladies, maybe I shouldn’t be putting so much information out, about semen, we are getting DNA… So, what is happening is that this gentleman has been arrested. He’s going through the due process,” the Minister said.

Mr Muntaka explained that investigators were exploring the use of DNA evidence as part of the investigation but would need to obtain a court order before collecting DNA samples, in accordance with the law.

He emphasised that Mr Abdulai remained presumed innocent until proven guilty and said the investigation was ongoing.

The minister also assured the committee that the headmaster would be given the opportunity to respond to the allegations and defend himself through the appropriate legal process.
