Education NAGRAT alleges 38 Obuasi teachers targeted for transfers for speaking out against headmaster sexual conducts
TUE, 20 OCT 2026

The National Association of Graduate Teachers (NAGRAT) has alleged that 38 teachers at Obuasi Senior High Technical School were targeted for transfer after speaking out against the handling of sexual misconduct allegations involving the school's headmaster, Zakaria Abdulai.

NAGRAT President Thomas Anaba said the affected teachers were directed to leave the school in September 2026, following the emergence of allegations said to date back to 2025.

Speaking on Citi Prime News on Tuesday, October 20, Mr Anaba explained that the directive was communicated through the school's assistant headmaster, who reportedly said it came from the District Director. However, he said the teachers were not given any explanation for the proposed transfers.

He indicated that some of the teachers had openly criticised the handling of the allegations, while others had raised concerns about the matter.

“The Assistant Headmaster was asked to tell 38 teachers to transfer because they were being vocal,” he said.

Mr Anaba also raised questions about the committee's decision to clear the headmaster of wrongdoing. He said the committee was reportedly chaired by the District Director, despite claims that students and parents had raised complaints before the allegations became public in August 2026.

In a related development, Mr Abdulai has resigned as the Juaben Constituency Secretary of the National Democratic Congress (NDC) and withdrawn from the race for the constituency chairmanship amid the allegations involving female students.

In a letter announcing his decision, he stated that both his resignation and withdrawal from the contest took immediate effect.

The controversy has drawn increased public attention, prompting the Ghana Education Service (GES) to initiate investigations. The matter has also been referred to the Criminal Investigations Department (CID) of the Ghana Police Service for further investigation.
