Kofi Mathew is contesting as the National Democratic Congress Central Region Secretary, and there is no doubt that he is the best person for the position. In a region where the party needs committed, resourceful, and battle-tested leadership, Kofi Mathew stands out as the obvious choice.
Kofi was one of the founders of the Social Media Communicators (SMC) of the National Democratic Congress, an organised network of digital activists, party members, and sympathisers who use social media to promote the party's interest. This was not a small undertaking. Building such a network required vision, sacrifice, and an unshakable belief in the NDC's mission. Kofi provided all three and more.
In 2014, Kofi was one of the brains behind the SMC conference in Cape Coast that brought NDC sympathisers from every region of the country. Cape Coast stood still. The event demonstrated not only his organisational abilities but also his capacity to mobilise people across the length and breadth of Ghana. It remains a reference point in the party's history, and Kofi's fingerprints are all over it.
He is fondly referred to as the National Chairman of NDC grassroots. That title was not conferred by any formal process. It was earned through years of selfless service. Kofi has been taking care of many NDC needy grassroots members with his own resources. He has not waited for the party to provide support before extending a helping hand. He has not complained about the burden. He has simply done what needed to be done, quietly and consistently.
There is no doubt that he will turn the Central Region around to benefit the NDC and its members in the region. The Central Region is critical to the party's fortunes. With Kofi Mathew as Secretary, the party will have someone who understands the grassroots, who listens to the concerns of ordinary members, and who has the energy and creativity to translate those concerns into action.
Kofi is matured, experienced, credible, reliable and very intelligent. These are not empty words. They are the attributes that define his public life and his service to the party. He has demonstrated maturity in his dealings with people from all walks of life. He has gained experience through years of active involvement in party activities. He has proven his credibility by keeping his word and delivering on his commitments. He has shown reliability by being present when it mattered most. And his intelligence is evident in the strategic thinking he brings to every assignment.
Some party folks even believe that he is capable of becoming the National General Secretary of the NDC. That is high praise, and it is well deserved. But for now, Kofi Mathew has set his sights on the Central Region. He wants to serve the party at the regional level, to strengthen its structures, to empower its members, and to help build the kind of NDC that can win elections and improve the lives of Ghanaians.
The National Democratic Congress needs people like Kofi Mathew in positions of responsibility. The Central Region needs a Secretary who will work day and night for the party's success. The grassroots need a leader who understands their struggles and is committed to addressing them.
Kofi Mathew is that person. He is the best person for the position. Delegates should give him their mandate and watch him deliver.
