Nii Tetteh Laryea Cyril, popularly known as TLC, has outlined plans to modernise the communication structures of the National Democratic Congress (NDC) in Greater Accra, proposing a regional training hub, a dedicated website and a podcast studio to improve the party's engagement with Ghanaians.
The aspiring Greater Accra Regional Communications Officer disclosed the proposals after completing his vetting process at the party's regional office, announcing that he had picked Number One on the ballot ahead of the regional elections.
He said his vision was to build a well-organised and technologically equipped communications wing capable of effectively promoting government policies, explaining development projects and responding to public concerns.
“My vision is to build a communications wing that is active, informed and technologically equipped. We must move beyond the traditional approach and embrace modern ways of communicating with our members and the wider Ghanaian public,” TLC said.
A key component of his agenda is the establishment of a Regional Information, Communication and Coaching Hub, which would provide training for party communicators and improve their ability to explain government policies and respond to political developments.
According to him, the proposed facility would help address gaps in communication skills, policy knowledge and coordination among party communicators.
“We need a system where our communicators are trained, updated and prepared for the task ahead. They must understand the policies and programmes of the government so they can communicate accurately and confidently at the grassroots level,” he stated.
TLC believes that strengthening the party's communication capacity is essential to ensuring that government achievements are properly understood by the public.
He observed that the NDC sometimes fails to publicise its record while in office, allowing political opponents to dominate public discussions about government performance.
“We cannot afford to go silent while in government and become active only when elections are approaching. We must tell our success stories every day and make sure the people understand what we are doing,” he said.
To address this concern, he plans to introduce the “Trumpet Series”, which would provide a platform for regular publicity of government projects, policies and social interventions.
The candidate also disclosed that he had developed a website for the Greater Accra Regional Communications Wing, which he said would be launched soon.
He explained that the website would form part of a broader digital strategy aimed at improving information sharing and making the party's communication activities more accessible to the public.
“Information and communication technology must become an important part of our work. I have developed a website for the Greater Accra Regional Communications Wing, and it is expected to be launched soon as we work towards strengthening our digital presence,” he said.
Another proposal is the establishment of an Ehejor Podcast Studio, which he intends to use as a platform for Members of Parliament to explain their work, discuss policies and communicate planned development projects to citizens.
TLC said the initiative would create opportunities for more direct engagement between political representatives and the public.
“Our MPs must have platforms where they can tell their stories, explain the work they are doing and inform Ghanaians about projects they intend to undertake. Communication must not be limited to rallies and press conferences,” he stated.
He further emphasised the need to organise existing grassroots communicators more effectively, citing Ablekuma North, which he said has more than 300 communicators.
He questioned why the party continued to experience communication challenges despite having a considerable number of people who could help disseminate its messages.
“The numbers are there, but we must give our people the right direction, the right information and the necessary training. When communicators are properly organised, we can reach more people and respond to issues more effectively,” he said.
TLC also cited allegations raised by the NPP Minority in Parliament concerning GoldBod as an example of why the party needed a coordinated communication structure capable of addressing controversial issues promptly.
He maintained that a stronger regional communications wing would help ensure that the party's position was communicated clearly and consistently during public debates.
On his political background, TLC said he became involved in active politics at an early age and served as Propaganda Secretary in the Ablekuma North Constituency before taking up positions at the Youth Employment Agency, including Deputy Director and Deputy Director of Administration.
He attributed his career progression to commitment and hard work, adding that he was seeking the regional position to bring fresh ideas and greater efficiency to the party's communication operations.
“I believe the time has come for us to strengthen our communication systems and take advantage of technology. I am ready to work with the grassroots and build a communications wing that will be effective throughout the year,” he said.
He appealed to delegates to support his candidature, urging them to vote for Number One on the ballot as the NDC prepares to elect its Greater Accra Regional Communications Officer.
He said his ultimate objective was to improve the party's visibility, strengthen grassroots communication and ensure that its policies and achievements reach a wider audience ahead of the 2028 general election.
