Former Vice President Dr Mahamudu Bawumia has criticised the Mahama-led government over the implementation of the National Democratic Congress’ (NDC) flagship 24-hour economy policy, describing it as campaign propaganda intended to deceive Ghanaians.
Speaking at the New Patriotic Party’s (NPP) National Thanksgiving Service in Sunyani, Dr Bawumia questioned why the government had yet to deliver on the policy nearly two years after assuming office.
He argued that the delay suggested the NDC did not fully understand the policy it presented to voters during the election campaign.
"They also promised Ghanaians they were coming with a new economy they called 24-hour economy. We have been waiting for nearly 2 years to see it but it has not happened. Clearly they did not even understand what they were talking about.”
Dr Bawumia further challenged the government to explain its employment creation plans, referring to what he said was the NDC’s promise of a “1:3:3” arrangement.
"They themselves don't understand it, so how can they explain it to us? It was a campaign propaganda to deceive Ghanaians. They said 1:3:3—one job for three people and the question Ghanaians are asking is where are the jobs?", he quizzed.
The NPP flagbearer also cited President John Mahama’s promise to complete the Agenda 111 hospital projects, alongside other commitments, arguing that the government had failed to deliver on them.
He said the NPP would approach the 2028 general elections with policy proposals it could implement if returned to power.
"…towards 2028, as we have started, we are going with ideas, costed ideas, practical ideas, workable ideas. We are not going to promise Ghanaians what we cannot do when elected," he stressed.
Dr Bawumia’s remarks form part of the NPP’s efforts to position itself ahead of the 2028 elections by challenging the government’s record and presenting its alternative policy agenda.

There is a video circulating of Nana Jantuah angrily criticizing Bawumia. According to him, Bawumia's constant attacks will lead to his downfall, so he should stop and instead focus on the 24‑hour economy and “akuko nkiti nkiti” as his campaign message, because in Jantuah's view, the NDC is failing in that area. Then the next thing to see is Bawumia rushing to the media to do what Jantuah told him. It's unfortunate. This confirms what many Ghanaians have been saying since t...
