MON, 19 OCT 2026

The Ghana Health Service (GHS) is set to intensify efforts to protect girls against cervical cancer through a nationwide school-based Human Papillomavirus (HPV) vaccination campaign scheduled for October and November/December 2026.

The campaign will be conducted in two rounds under the Periodic Intensification of Routine Immunisation (PIRI), in collaboration with the Ghana Education Service (GES), through the School Health Education Programme (SHEP), and other partners.

The first round begins on Monday, October 19, and ends on Friday, October 23, 2026, while the second round is scheduled for November 30 to December 4, 2026.

It stated this in a press release issued on Monday in Accra.

It said health teams will visit schools across the country to administer the HPV vaccine to eligible girls aged 9 to 14 who have not yet received it.

According to GHS, the exercise is aimed at raising awareness about the routine HPV vaccine, improving uptake and ensuring that more girls are protected against cervical cancer and other diseases associated with HPV infection.

The GHS has called on school authorities, parents, guardians, teachers and community leaders to support the exercise and cooperate with health teams to ensure its successful implementation.

The Service said the campaign formed part of its continued efforts to strengthen routine immunisation and protect the health and well-being of children across the country.

It also expressed appreciation to its partners and stakeholders for their continued support and collaboration in promoting public health and building a healthier nation.
