Pupils of Belintanga Basic School in the Pusiga District of the Upper East Region have received furniture following an intervention by a resident, Lukman Sofo, aimed at improving teaching and learning conditions at the school.
The support comes after pupils endured harsh learning conditions due to a severe shortage of desks and chairs, with some forced to lie on their bellies in classrooms just to write and study.
In addition to providing furniture, Mr. Sofo funded refurbishment works at the school as part of broader efforts to create a more conducive learning environment for the children.
Speaking to the media, Mr. Sofo said his decision to support the school was inspired by the difficult conditions he had observed among the pupils. He added that he remains committed to contributing to educational development in his community and the wider Pusiga District.
The intervention is expected to ease the challenges pupils face in the classroom and help create a more comfortable and effective environment for teaching and learning.
The Headmistress of Belintanga Basic School, Salam Belau, recounted the difficulties pupils had faced due to the lack of furniture and commended Mr. Sofo for responding to the school’s needs. She expressed appreciation for the support, noting that it would significantly improve classroom conditions.
Some pupils also expressed excitement and gratitude, describing the provision of furniture as a welcome relief from the discomfort they previously endured. One of the beneficiaries, Awini Munira, said the intervention had brought much‑needed comfort to pupils who struggled to study properly.
The donation underscores the need for sustained investment in basic school infrastructure to ensure that children in underserved communities have access to a safe, supportive and conducive learning environment.
