UHAS Receives 200 Laptops to Boost Digital Learning Under One Million Coders Programme

The University of Health and Allied Sciences (UHAS) has received 200 laptops under the Government’s One Million Coders Programme (OMCP) to strengthen digital learning and equip students with technology skills to complement their professional healthcare training.

The laptops were presented on Friday, October 16, 2026, by the Minister for Communication, Digital Technology and Innovations, Hon. Samuel Nartey George Esq., who described digital technology as an increasingly important component of modern healthcare delivery.

He noted that emerging technologies—including artificial intelligence, data analytics, telemedicine and robotics—are transforming medical practice and creating new opportunities for healthcare professionals.

The Minister encouraged UHAS to maximise the use of the devices and ensure that students acquire relevant digital competencies before graduation. He explained that the initial allocation could be reviewed based on student enrolment, usage and demonstrated demand.

The laptops, equipped with Intel Core i5 processors, 16GB RAM, 512GB solid-state drive storage and Windows 11, will support the delivery of specialised technology training. Fifty devices have already been configured and deployed in preparation for the programme.

Welcoming the delegation, the Vice-Chancellor of UHAS, Prof. Lydia Aziato, expressed appreciation for the support and reaffirmed the University’s commitment to Ghana’s digital development agenda.

She said the University had identified suitable spaces across its various schools to accommodate the equipment and facilitate student participation.

The initiative is expected to strengthen students’ digital literacy and expand their access to technology-based learning, helping prepare future healthcare professionals to meet the evolving demands of the health sector.
