Ewe 24 TV’s Gameli Dovia, Modern Ghana News columnist, named UK MEET emerging technology fellow

Emmanuel Gameli Dovia, an environmental and climate journalist with Ewe 24 TV and a columnist with Modern Ghana News, has been selected for the UK Media Excellence for Emerging Technology (UK MEET) Fellowship.

He is one of 30 fellows chosen from more than 500 applications submitted by journalists and content creators across Ghana and Nigeria. The fellowship seeks to strengthen journalism on science, technology, and emerging innovations.

Dovia reports in Ewe and English across television, radio, and digital platforms in the Volta Region and writes a column for Modern Ghana News on climate change and environment.

“This fellowship comes at a crucial time,” Dovia said. “Climate change and new technologies are already affecting farmers and coastal communities, and they deserve reporting that is accurate and well sourced. I look forward to learning from the researchers and my fellow journalists and to bringing that knowledge back to our viewers, listeners, and readers.”

Each application was assessed independently by two reviewers. Successful candidates were judged on their reporting records, clarity of perspective, and story pitches built around questions worth investigating.

The fellowship is delivered by Imperial College London through Imperial Global Ghana, with support from the British High Commission.

The program began with residential training in Accra on October 12, where the fellows are engaging with researchers working in artificial intelligence, climate change, and health technology. They will learn to scrutinize scientific and technological claims, verify information, find relevant data, and turn complex developments into stories their audiences can follow.

Editorial clinics will help fellows refine their story ideas, strengthen their sources, and plan publication of their proposed reports. The fellowship also aims to build a network of science and technology journalists across the region, creating opportunities for collaboration and knowledge-sharing.

The fellowship comes at a time of growing public interest in emerging technologies and their effect on society.
