President John Dramani Mahama has inspected the progress of work on a meat processing factory in Bechem, in the Ahafo Region, which is expected to process 6,000 chickens per hour when completed.

The facility is being developed by the Ministry of Food and Agriculture as part of the government’s efforts to achieve self-sufficiency in poultry production.

The Minister of State in charge of Government Communications, Felix Kwakye Ofosu, disclosed this in a social media post on Tuesday, October 13, following the President’s visit to the project site over the weekend.

According to Kwakye Ofosu, the project has reached 50 per cent completion, with the contractor expected to finish the works in March 2027.

“The contractor assures that works will be completed in March next year, having already attained a 50% completion rate,” he wrote.

He added that all the equipment required for the facility had been procured and was ready for installation once construction of the buildings was completed.

“All equipment have been procured and ready for installation once the buildings are completed,” he stated.

The factory is intended to support Ghana’s efforts to reduce reliance on imported poultry products by strengthening domestic processing capacity.
