Six multimedia journalists have been picked for the UK Media Excellence for Emerging Technology (UK MEET) Fellowship, according to JoyNews on 12 October 2026. The selection followed a highly competitive process of more than 500 applications from journalists and content creators in Ghana and Nigeria. About 13 per cent of applicants were admitted, and 30 Ghanaians were selected in total.
What the fellowship is
Imperial College London delivers the programme through Imperial Global Ghana, with support from the British High Commission. It aims to build the capacity of journalists and digital content creators to report accurately, creatively and responsibly on science, innovation and emerging technologies. Participants complete online preparation and then an intensive six-night residential training in Ghana or Nigeria.
What fellows will do
Training starts with a residential programme in Accra, where fellows engage researchers working on artificial intelligence, climate change and health technology. Hands-on editorial clinics will help them refine story ideas, strengthen sources and plan publication of their proposed reports. The fellowship also seeks to build networks of science and technology journalists across the region for collaboration and knowledge-sharing.
Who has been named
Reports from myjoyonline.com name JoyNews's Jacqueline Ansomah Yeboah and Esther Esi Nkrumah. They also name two Luv 99.5FM journalists from the Multimedia Group's Kumasi unit, Clinton Yeboah and Nana Boakye Dankwah Yiadom. Jacqueline's profile says she is one of five JoyNews journalists selected. The names of all six journalists on the graphic have not been confirmed in the reports I found.
Why it matters
The fellowship comes amid growing public interest in emerging technologies and their impact on society. A central question for such reporting is how journalists can independently test claims about innovation and explain the findings to the people expected to use it. It also follows earlier UK-backed training in this area. Nine Ghanaian journalists were trained in science, technology and innovation reporting at Imperial College London, under the UK–Ghana STI Strategy (2023–2028).
