GOIL PLC, in collaboration with the Driver and Vehicle Licensing Authority (DVLA), has organised a sensitisation programme for commercial drivers at the Cape Coast Tantri Trotro Station to promote fuel efficiency, vehicle maintenance and compliance with registration requirements.

The initiative forms part of a broader customer education and compliance campaign aimed at helping commercial transport operators reduce operating costs, improve vehicle performance and understand changes to the vehicle registration system.

According to a statement issued by GOIL’s Public Affairs Unit and copied to the Communication for Development and Advocacy Consult (CDA Consult) in Accra, the engagement focused on two major concerns affecting commercial drivers: getting better value from fuel and preparing for the planned nationwide rollout of the new vehicle number plate system.

The programme brought GOIL’s fuel quality education together with regulatory guidance from DVLA officials, giving drivers an opportunity to ask questions and obtain practical information relevant to their daily operations.

GOIL highlights fuel efficiency benefits

During the engagement, GOIL representatives educated drivers on the importance of fuel quality and its potential impact on engine performance, maintenance expenses and fuel consumption.

Particular attention was given to the company’s XP3 additive technology, which GOIL said helps clean and protect engines, prevent carbon build-up in fuel injectors and improve combustion.

The company explained that improved engine performance and fuel economy could help commercial drivers manage their operating expenses, particularly those who cover long distances daily.

For drivers operating under tight financial margins, the company noted, savings on fuel and maintenance could make a difference to their overall business performance.

The interactive session also allowed participants to share their experiences, raise technical questions about fuel quality and vehicle performance, and receive guidance on maintaining their vehicles.

Through the engagement, GOIL sought to strengthen its relationship with commercial drivers by presenting itself not only as a fuel supplier but also as a partner in their business operations.

The initiative, according to the company, reflects its core values represented by the acronym G-O-I-L: Good, referring to quality products and services; Originality, reflecting its identity as a Ghanaian brand; Integrity, representing credibility and ethical business practices; and Leadership, highlighting its growth and position in the industry.

DVLA explains new vehicle number plate system

Alongside the fuel education session, DVLA officials briefed drivers on the new vehicle number plate system ahead of its planned nationwide rollout.

The officials outlined key features of the system, its security benefits, implementation timeline and associated requirements, providing practical guidance to help commercial operators prepare for the transition.

They explained that the new system is intended to improve vehicle traceability, enhance road safety and streamline registration processes.

The engagement also gave drivers the opportunity to seek clarification on the changes and raise concerns about the requirements they would need to meet.

The education was intended to help operators understand their obligations and avoid potential disruptions to their businesses arising from non-compliance.

For commercial drivers, the company noted, penalties, vehicle impoundment and time spent resolving regulatory issues could translate into lost income and reduced productivity.

By combining information on fuel efficiency with guidance on vehicle registration, the programme addressed two issues that directly affect the daily operations of commercial transport operators.

GOIL expands customer engagement

The Cape Coast initiative forms part of GOIL’s broader efforts to deepen customer engagement and educate motorists about its products, particularly commercial drivers who rely on consistent fuel quality to sustain their businesses.

The collaboration also demonstrates how public and private institutions can work together to provide practical information to transport operators, with the DVLA focusing on regulatory compliance and GOIL on fuel quality and vehicle performance.

As a fully integrated energy company, GOIL operates three subsidiaries that support different aspects of its business.

These are GOEnergy Limited, a bulk distribution company (BDC) responsible for product availability; GOIL Upstream Limited, which manages the company's offshore business interests; and GOBitumen Limited, a joint venture involved in bitumen production and distribution to support road infrastructure development in Ghana.

The company said its broader operations extend beyond retail fuel sales to activities across the energy supply chain.

The sensitisation programme at Cape Coast Tantri was designed to equip commercial drivers with practical knowledge to make informed decisions about fuel use, vehicle maintenance and regulatory compliance.

GOIL’s message to commercial transport operators is that quality fuel, better vehicle care and compliance with registration requirements can contribute to more efficient business operations and help drivers remain on the road.
