Eight suspects who attempted to initiate a victim into an internet fraud business have been arrested by the Bono Regional Police command.
The Regional Operations Unit of the police suspects Peter Mbam, 24, Godwin Moses, 26, Humble Oweifah, 18, Osas Ogbemudia, 30, Samuel Aisosa, 22, Ashile Godbess, 24, Alexander Uyuo, 30, and Patrick Romans, 25 years at Kuotokrom in the Sunyani Municipality.
They were inflicting multiple marks of assaults on the victim, one Godstime Umukoro, aged 21 years to seal his initiation when the police pounced on them.
In a statement issued and signed by Chief Inspector Thomas Akeelah, the Public Relations Officer of the Bono Regional Police administration, the suspects were involved in fraudulent acts.
They were arrested on October 4, 2026 around 1630 hours, a copy of the statement made available to the Ghana News Agency (GNA) in Sunyani.
The statement indicated that the police patrol team received a distress call that a group of people were attacking the victim, saying that the team proceeded to the scene and found the victim with multiple marks of assault on his body.
It explained that during interrogation: “The suspects admitted that they subjected the victim to severe beating as part of his initiation into the Internet fraud business, a process they claimed they had also undergone”.
Preliminary investigations revealed that suspects were brought to Ghana from Nigeria by one Nwachukwu King Augustine, who is their chairman.
“They lure innocent victims using downloaded images of foreign military men and start chatting with them under the pretext that they are at war front in Yemen”, the statement added.
When they succeed in collecting the victims’ money, the money is then paid into their Boss’s account.
The statement commended the public for their swift intervention and assured them of continued collaboration in fighting crime in the region.
