The Driver and Vehicle Licensing Authority (DVLA) has generated about GH¢27.14 million from the issuance of tamper-proof digital stickers for vehicles imported into Ghana between January and September 2026.
Chief Executive Officer Julius Kotey Neequaye said the introduction of the stickers had helped curb revenue leakages associated with the distribution of temporary dealer’s plates (DP plates) at the country’s ports of entry.
He disclosed this at the Government Accountability Series on Monday, October 12, while outlining measures taken by the Authority to protect public revenue and strengthen financial accountability.
Mr Neequaye said the DVLA replaced the aluminium DP plates with tamper-proof digital stickers to ensure that vehicles received the required identification before leaving the ports.
“We immediately replaced the aluminum plates with tamper-proof digital stickers, and here is the interesting result,” he said.
According to him, the reform has significantly increased the number of temporary vehicle identifiers issued at the ports, with monthly issuance rising from an average of between 1,800 and 1,900 plates to more than 15,000 stickers by October 2025.
He said the increase had translated into higher revenue for the government, with the Authority recording 134,361 stickers and approximately GH¢27.14 million in revenue in the first nine months of 2026.
“In this 2026, from January to September alone, we have done 134,000 DP stickers, and that has given us an excess of 27 million,” he stated.
Mr Neequaye further disclosed that the DVLA issued 76,312 DP plates in 2024, generating about GH¢15 million in revenue.
In 2025, the Authority issued 111,101 stickers, generating approximately GH¢22 million, according to the figures he presented.
