The NPP hits identity crisis and the gods are angry

The NPP has more Founders than any political party in Ghana. They don’t have someone like Dr. Nkrumah for CPP, Flt Lt Rawlings for NDC, Dr. Hassan Ayariga for APC.

Now when their Founders met, they came up with three identities for the party. The identities included going to be an Akan (not Ashanti) party; they were going to be an elite party and they were going to run a capitalist government.

On the issue being an Akan party, the Founders decided that the Flag bearer, the National Chairman and the General Secretary should always be an Akan. Do you know why Paul Afoko was sacked as the National Chairman? Kwabena Agyepong was used as the sacrificial lamb. They won the elections in 2016.

In 2022/23, when President Mahama told Dr. Bawumiah that the NPP is using and to dump him, they quickly broke from their core identity and elected Dr. Bawumiah, a northerner, for the 2024 elections. The result was 38.2%. The Founders and the gods of the party were angry.

On the issue of being an elite party, the Founders decided not to associate the party with “valander” boys and be in the “gutters” The reason they didn’t participate in the drafting of the 1992 constitution.

Now, because they think in their minds that Kevin Taylor is insulting them, they have broken from their identity and employed one Ghana Jollof as the Head of the communication for insults. My good friends Osabarima Kwasi Owusu and Wofa Konongo Kaya, very decent NPP guys have publicly endorsed what Ghana Jollof is doing. Kevin Taylor has forced the NPP to go down the gutters, even though he is not in there.

On the issue of a capitalist administration, the Founders decided that when in government, they will provide the private sector with the resources to grow the economy. Under no circumstances, should the party involve itself with free, free stuff.

Now Nana Addo became President in 2016 and by 2017, he had extended the Free SHS, Dr Nkrumah and the NDC had started and piloted in the Notth. Nana Addo extended to the whole country and if they had done good analysis of the 2020 elections, they would have known that the Free SHS didn’t help the party. The Founders and gods of the party were angry. Can you imagine President Trump of the Republican Party implementing a Free SHS or anything Free in America?

President Rawlings told the NDC not to mimic the bad behavior of the NPP but stick to what gave birth to them: Probity and Accountability. Let the NDC keep to that whilst the NPP loses its identity and angers their gods. They got 38.2% and 88 parliamentarians in 2024. Let’s see what they will get in 2028. Their angry Founders and gods will decide for them.
