The Ashanti Regional Chairman of the New Patriotic Party (NPP), Odeneho Kwaku Appiah, has urged the party’s newly elected national executives to prioritise reconciliation with their opponents as part of efforts to strengthen internal unity ahead of the 2028 general elections.
He said bringing together contestants and their supporters after the national delegates conference would help build an inclusive party capable of mounting an effective campaign to return the NPP to power.
“Immediate efforts to reconcile with fellow contestants to build a truly inclusive party are highly commendable, signalling the party's readiness to return to power”, he stressed.
Mr Appiah, popularly known as COKA, made the remarks in an interview with the media after the party’s national delegates conference at the Baba Yara Sports Stadium in Kumasi.
Held under the theme, “One party, one purpose: United for victory”, the conference brought together party delegates and stakeholders to elect national executives and reaffirm the party’s direction.
COKA called on the new leadership to sustain the spirit of reconciliation as it prepares for parliamentary primaries and the broader campaign ahead of the 2028 polls.
“With a decisive flag bearer and a united executive body behind him, our rank and file will be fully energised to prosecute an effective campaign and offer Ghanaians a strong alternative to the current administration," he said
COKA backs Bawumia for 2028
Reflecting on the conference, Mr Appiah said the strong support shown by delegates for the party’s flag bearer, Dr Mahamudu Bawumia, demonstrated a shared commitment among members towards the next general election.
"I am greatly fortified in spirit and conviction that Dr Bawumia will secure victory in the 2028 general elections.
The unwavering unity shown by party members over the weekend is a powerful omen for our journey ahead," he remarked.
He added that the conduct of aspirants and delegates during the conference demonstrated an understanding of the need for the party to present a united front against the governing National Democratic Congress (NDC).
According to him, maintaining that unity beyond the conference would be crucial to strengthening the NPP’s campaign machinery and positioning the party for the 2028 general elections.
