The Minister for Gender, Children and Social Protection, Dr. Agnes Naa Momo Lartey, has engaged Norman Harold, husband of Ghanaian fashion personality Nana Akua Addo, following his discharge from the hospital amid an ongoing investigation into allegations of domestic abuse involving the couple.

The meeting forms part of the Ministry’s efforts to safeguard the welfare of the family, particularly the children, as the Ghana Police Service investigates the allegations.

The development comes after videos and photographs allegedly involving Nana Akua Addo and members of her family circulated widely on social media, triggering public concern over the reported incident.

In the footage, Nana Akua Addo was seen receiving medical attention for injuries, while separate videos reportedly showed tense exchanges within the family, including allegations involving one of the couple’s children.

The matter has since attracted the attention of the Ghana Police Service and the Ministry of Gender, Children and Social Protection.

According to the Police, Nana Akua Addo petitioned the Director-General of the Criminal Investigations Department (CID) on August 20, 2026, alleging that her husband had subjected her to physical, emotional and economic abuse.

The Police further disclosed that a case involving the couple had previously been handled by the Domestic Violence and Victim Support Unit (DOVVSU) at the Lakeside and Ministries Police Stations in July 2026.

Following the petition, Norman Harold was arrested on August 27 to assist with investigations and was subsequently granted police enquiry bail with two sureties.

He was expected to appear before court on October 7, 2026, but the Police said his lawyer informed investigators that he had been admitted to hospital and could not attend.

The Police indicated that he would be arraigned after his discharge from the hospital.

During her engagement with Harold following his hospital discharge, Dr. Agnes Naa Momo Lartey emphasised the need to prioritise the safety, wellbeing and emotional welfare of the entire family.

The Minister stressed that the children must be protected from conflict and circumstances that could negatively affect their emotional development.

She also highlighted the importance of psychosocial and social welfare support to help family members cope with the situation.

As part of the arrangements, social welfare officers are expected to monitor the children's welfare and help ensure their safety and best interests.

The Ministry is also working with the Police and other relevant institutions to provide the necessary support while investigations continue.
