The ruling National Democratic Congress (NDC) has directed members and aspirants participating in its ongoing reorganisation exercise to comply with new restrictions on the size and placement of campaign posters and banners, giving those affected five days to make the necessary adjustments.
The party's Functional Executive Committee (FEC) set a maximum size of five feet wide by eight feet high for campaign posters and banners, warning that any wilful disregard of the directive will attract disciplinary action.
In a statement issued on Friday, October 9, and signed by the party's General Secretary, Fifi Fiavi Kwetey, the NDC said it had observed with concern that some members and aspirants had mounted oversized campaign posters and banners at various locations across the country.
The party explained that the directive followed deliberations at a meeting of the FEC held on Tuesday, October 6, where members considered the need to maintain order and discipline throughout the ongoing reorganisation process.
According to the statement, the restrictions are also intended to ensure a level playing field for all aspirants competing for positions within the party.
The FEC further directed that campaign posters and banners should be displayed only at designated locations, specifically constituency offices, regional offices and election grounds.
The directive effectively restricts campaign publicity materials from being mounted at locations outside those approved by the party, as it seeks to regulate campaigning during the reorganisation exercise.
The NDC said its position was also informed by the need for the party, as the governing political organisation, to demonstrate modesty and restraint in its activities.
“FEC is further conscious that, as the party in government, the NDC must lead by example through modesty and restraint and must avoid any display of extravagance or perception of it that is inconsistent with the values we espouse and the expectations of the Ghanaian people.”
