Mustapha Gbande, Deputy General Secretary of the National Democratic Congress (NDC), has dismissed suggestions that Kojo Bamba’s election as First Vice Chairman of the New Patriotic Party (NPP) could intimidate the ruling NDC.

Gbande said the NDC has built a strong political structure and would not be intimidated by Bamba or anyone else.

Speaking on Asempa FM, he said the NDC is prepared for any political contest and would not sit back if the NPP chooses violence to return to power.

“If the NPP believes violence is the path back to power, the NDC should not be underestimated. We are not afraid of any election,” he said.

Gbande, however, said the NDC would continue to engage the electorate peacefully.

He also dismissed suggestions that Bamba’s new position could shield anyone from accountability, insisting that political office would not prevent the law from taking its course.

“If you have stolen money, you’ll be arrested. Kojo Bamba cannot stop it,” he said.

Gbande said the NDC knows Bamba well and does not consider his election a reason for fear.

“He is one of our guys. He is our brother. We know Kojo Bamba,” he said, urging the public not to overhype his election or see it as a reason to fear political violence.

He also pointed to President John Dramani Mahama’s position that NDC members should not use violence against political opponents.

According to Gbande, Mahama has a good soul and has consistently discouraged NDC members from resorting to violence when dealing with their opponents.
