A fire outbreak at Srodae, a suburb of Koforidua in the Eastern Region, has destroyed a one-storey building used for commercial and domestic purposes.
According to a press statement issued by the Public Relations Unit of the Ghana National Fire Service (GNFS), the incident occurred on Saturday, October 3, 2026, with the New Juaben North Municipal Fire Station receiving a distress call at about 2302 hours.
It said a 10-member firefighting crew, led by SO II Nartey, was immediately dispatched to the scene and arrived at about 2315 hours.
“On arrival, the firefighters found the building fully engulfed in flames and immediately commenced firefighting operations,” the statement said.
The fire was brought under control at about 0123 hours and completely extinguished at 0304 hours.
The GNFS said the swift response by the firefighters prevented the fire from spreading to adjoining properties, thereby minimising further damage.
It said the fire destroyed personal care products, electrical cables, fascia boards, lights, personal belongings, jewellery, paints, drinks, air conditioners, mobile phones and accessories, clothing, footwear and roofing sheets.
The intensity of the fire also caused the complete collapse of the first floor and partial collapse of sections of the ground floor.
The GNFS explained that it had cordoned off the affected building due to its compromised structural integrity to prevent unauthorised entry and protect the public from possible danger.
According to the GNFS, Preliminary investigations into the cause of the fire are ongoing
