Newly elected Third National Vice Chairman of the New Patriotic Party (NPP), Nana Akomea, has denied claims that he was involved in an arrangement to swap the positions of the party’s newly elected vice chairpersons.
The denial follows reports suggesting that there was an attempt to alter the order of the vice chair positions after the ballots had been sorted and the results determined.
Kojo Fosu Boadu, popularly known as Kojo Bamba, was elected First National Vice Chairman, while Henry Nana Boakye and Nana Akomea secured the second and third positions respectively.
However, reports subsequently emerged that there had been an arrangement for Kojo Bamba to occupy the third position, with Nana Akomea and Henry Nana Boakye moving up to the first and second positions.
Reacting to this, Nana Akomea, in a social media post on Monday, October 5, dismissed the claims and explained that he was not present during the counting and tabulation of the votes.
“So I was not present during the vote counting and tabulation, and so could not have engaged myself in any ‘negotiation’ with Kojo Bamba or anybody else,” he said.
He also rejected claims that his absence from the introduction of the newly elected national executives was linked to a failed arrangement involving Kojo Bamba.
Nana Akomea said he had left the conference grounds around 11:30 p.m. and was caught in traffic while returning to the venue.
“I got caught up in traffic on my way back to the stadium, and only reached the conference grounds a few minutes after the introductions had been done,” he said.
