New Faces, New Energy: NPP Looks to 2028 After Kumasi Delegates Conference

The New Patriotic Party (NPP) has chosen a new national leadership as it begins its reorganisation for the 2028 general election. More than 7,000 delegates voted at the National Delegates Conference on Saturday, 3 October 2026, at the Baba Yara Sports Stadium in Kumasi.

The Electoral Commission supervised the polls, with voting across 31 polling stations, and the winners will manage the party's affairs for a four-year term.

John Boadu was elected National Chairman with 2,888 votes. Justin Frimpong Kodua kept his post as General Secretary.

Titus Glover won the National Organiser contest with 2,964 votes, and Alfred Kwajo Thompson was elected National Treasurer with 2,243 votes.

Three vice chairmen were chosen from a field of 13 candidates: Kojo Fosu Boadu (Kojo Bamba), Henry Nana Boakye and Nana Akomea.

Dennis Edward Miracles Aboagye became National Communications Director unopposed. Abanga Fuseini won the Youth Organiser race with 1,550 votes against five rivals, and Hawa Koomson was elected National Women's Organiser.

The executives were sworn in shortly after the results were declared.

The signals of renewal are in the line-up and the tone. Boadu has pledged to rebuild the party and restore its winning machinery.

The Ashanti constituency chairmen's caucus, which said the region delivered more than 7,000 delegates, called the exercise peaceful, transparent and credible.

It also pledged support to the new leadership and cited the experience of Boadu and Kodua as assets. For a party that has to recover from an electoral defeat and heal internal rivalries, a smooth conference is itself a useful result.

Energy alone does not win elections, though. Three tests lie ahead:

Unity: The party must bring defeated aspirants and their supporters into one campaign structure.

Grassroots rebuilding: The new leaders must restore polling-station-level organisation, which is where Ghana's elections are decided.

Messaging: With Aboagye in charge of communications, the party must offer a coherent critique of the government and a credible alternative.

The new executives have until 2028 to show that the Kumasi vote marks a genuine reset rather than a change of faces.
