The Volta Regional Office of the National Health Insurance Authority (NHIA) has unveiled steps to translate the Authority’s 2026–2029 Medium-Term Strategic Plan (MTSP) into concrete actions at the regional and district levels.
The plan was disseminated at a programme in Ho attended by members of the Regional Management Team, Monitoring and Evaluation Officers, District Managers, and representatives of the Ghana Health Service (GHS), the Christian Health Association of Ghana (CHAG), and other stakeholders.
The Volta Regional Director of the NHIA, Susan Chobbah, said a strong understanding of the strategic plan was essential to ensuring its effective implementation across the region.
She explained that the MTSP would serve as a clear roadmap for the Authority’s operations over the next four years, providing direction for planning and implementation at both regional and district levels.
Presenting the plan on behalf of the Deputy Chief Executive Officer in charge of Operations, Dr Senanu Kwesi Djokoto, the Director of Research, Policy, Monitoring and Evaluation, Mr Abass Suleman, outlined the major priorities that would guide the NHIA during the period.
These include improving service delivery, strengthening the long-term sustainability of the National Health Insurance Scheme, accelerating digital transformation and promoting institutional excellence through accountability, transparency, good governance and staff capacity development.
The Deputy Director of Research, Mr Collins Akuamoah, said the MTSP would also provide the framework for the Authority’s planning, budgeting, implementation, monitoring and reporting activities from 2026 to 2029.
He urged staff to align their annual Programmes of Work (POWs) and Personal Performance Agreements with the strategic priorities set out in the plan, stressing the need to translate the broader objectives into measurable actions.
Mr Akuamoah further highlighted the NHIA’s commitment to advancing Universal Health Coverage (UHC) by improving access to quality healthcare, reviewing benefit tariffs, increasing membership enrolment and retention, strengthening quality assurance systems and controlling claims costs.
He said these measures were critical to improving the efficiency of the scheme while ensuring its financial sustainability and continued ability to provide healthcare coverage to members.
Participants were encouraged to study the strategic document carefully and take ownership of its implementation, using it as a practical guide in the execution of their respective responsibilities.
The dissemination programme therefore served as an important step towards ensuring that the NHIA’s four-year strategic priorities are understood and reflected in the day-to-day operations of its regional and district offices.
