MON, 05 OCT 2026

The Member of Parliament (MP) for Obuasi West, Mr Kweku Agyeman Kwarteng, has donated 100 Mac computers to public Junior High Schools (JHS) in the constituency to support Information and Communication Technology (ICT) education.

The donation forms part of the MP's “Computer for Schools Project,” an ongoing initiative to provide at least 20 computers to each of the 28 public JHSs in the constituency by the end of 2028.

The project therefore targets at least 560 computers across the 28 schools and includes plans to build fully equipped computer laboratories for deprived schools in the constituency.

Speaking to the media at the Obuasi Municipal Assembly presentation, Mr Kwarteng said the initiative aimed to improve students' access to digital learning resources and equip them with ICT skills.

He explained that the decision to provide Mac computers was deliberate, saying the devices could operate on both Windows and iOS platforms and would therefore expose students to different computing environments.

The MP estimated the total cost of the project at GH¢14 million, with funding expected to come from the MP's share of the District Assemblies Common Fund and support from donor partners.

He said the phased implementation would continue until the end of 2028, to ensure that all 28 public JHSs received at least 20 computers each.

Receiving the computers on behalf of the Municipal Assembly, the Municipal Coordinating Director, Madam Joyce Akosua Angmorteh, who represented the MCE, thanked the MP for the intervention and commended the initiative.

The Municipal Director of Education, Mr George Alfred Koomson, also expressed appreciation for the project, saying the provision of computers would help bridge disparities in access to ICT facilities among schools.

He pledged the Education Directorate's support in ensuring that the computers were properly maintained and effectively used for their intended purpose.

The 100 computers presented under the latest phase have been distributed among 11 public JHSs in the constituency. Some of the 11 beneficiary schools had previously received computers under an earlier phase of the project.

The latest distribution is, therefore, part of the broader phased programme to equip all 28 public JHSs with at least 20 computers each by the end of 2028.
