GHS Director-General joins Neurosurgery team to strengthen specialist care at Ridge Hospital

The Ghana Health Service (GHS) is reinforcing specialist healthcare delivery through clinical collaboration and skills transfer, with the Director-General, Dr Samuel Kaba Akoriyea, joining the Neurosurgery team at the Greater Accra Regional Hospital, Ridge, during a series of surgical procedures.

Dr Kaba Akoriyea joined the team alongside Prof. Oumar Diallo, a Consultant Neurosurgeon from Mali, who has been working with the hospital’s Neurosurgery team over the past several weeks.

Prof. Diallo’s engagement has provided an opportunity for specialists at Ridge Hospital to work together on a range of neurosurgical cases while sharing knowledge, techniques and practical experience.

The collaboration is helping to deepen local expertise and create opportunities for continuous professional development, particularly in the delivery of specialised surgical services.

Dr Kaba Akoriyea’s presence in the theatre underscored the importance of supporting specialist teams and creating an environment where healthcare professionals can learn from one another and strengthen their clinical skills.

The Medical Director of the Greater Accra Regional Hospital, Dr Leslie Issa Adam-Zakariah, expressed appreciation to the Director-General for his continued support for efforts to improve the quality of healthcare and advance specialist services at the facility.

He noted that such support was important in building professional capacity and ensuring that patients benefit from improved access to specialised care.

The ongoing partnership between Prof. Diallo and the Ridge Hospital Neurosurgery team reflects the hospital’s commitment to clinical learning, shared expertise and innovation, with the broader goal of strengthening specialist care and improving outcomes for patients.
