A member of the New Patriotic Party (NPP) national communications team, Kwesi Botchwey Jr, has claimed that the election of Kwadwo Fosu Boadu, popularly known as Kojo Bamba, as the party’s First Vice Chairman has unsettled the opposition National Democratic Congress (NDC).

Kwadwo Bamba emerged as the NPP’s First Vice Chairman at the party’s National Delegates Conference held at the Baba Yara Sports Stadium in Kumasi on Saturday, October 3.

He polled 3,116 votes to top a field of 13 candidates competing for the three vice-chairmanship positions.

Henry Nana Boakye secured the Second Vice Chairman position with 3,061 votes, while Nana Akomea placed third with 2,987 votes.

His election has attracted attention because of his grassroots political background and previous association with the Delta Force group, a pro-NPP vigilante group that became prominent in the Ashanti Region after the party’s 2016 election victory.

Speaking on Metro TV’s Good Morning Ghana on Monday, October 5, 2026, Kwesi Botchwey said the NDC’s criticism of Mr Bamba’s election suggested that the party was concerned about the composition of the NPP’s new national leadership ahead of the 2028 general elections.

He also defended Kwadwo Bamba’s qualifications and grassroots political experience, arguing that academic credentials should not be the sole basis for assessing political leadership.

“The election of Kojo Bamba to the national leadership of the NPP has sent a clear and unmistakable signal to the NDC, and the NDC is in a panic mode. The election of Kojo Bamba has unsettled the NDC,” he said.

He further rejected attempts to question Mr Bamba’s suitability for the position based on his educational or professional background.

He described the newly elected First Vice Chairman as a former auto mechanic, a university graduate, a grassroots politician and someone who represents the interests of young people.

“The NPP is a national party. The NPP is a party that belongs to every single Ghanaian, irrespective of your race, religion, academic background, colour, competence or whatsoever,” he said.

Young man, intelligence alone does not make anyone wise. Studying law is admirable, but it does not mean you have reached a point in life where you understand its deeper lessons. Being a lawyer, by itself, is not a measure of maturity or judgment. If you truly want to grow in your political journey, you must stop engaging in reckless behavior that will only damage your future. You are not even 40, let alone 50, yet you are already compromising your integrity for political gain. I sincerely...
