The National Union of Ghana Students (NUGS) has kicked against a proposed 26% increase in residential accommodation fees at the University of Ghana (UG).
NUGS said it had been reliably informed that the university was considering the increment, which would affect students seeking residential accommodation.
The student body has consequently cautioned that it will oppose any attempt by the university to implement the proposed increase.
“NUGS is reliably informed that the University of Ghana has proposed a 26% increase in residential accommodation fees," President of NUGS, Rashid Ibrahim, wrote this in a social media post on Friday, October 2.
“We strongly oppose this proposed increment and will resist any attempt to implement it!!!”
The development comes on the back of recent advocacy by the student body over indiscriminate hotel charges.
NUGS petitioned the Rent Control Commission to look into the matter and address the situation to ensure students are not overburdened.
