The German President, Frank-Walter Steinmeier, will lead a high-powered delegation to visit Ghana to take part in the German-African Business Summit scheduled for November 23 to 25, 2026.
More than 600 business leaders and decision-makers from Germany and across Africa are expected to be in Ghana for the summit, which would be a platform for German businesses to reach across West Africa and the African continent.
The German Ambassador to Ghana, Frederik Landshöft, disclosed this in Accra last Wednesday at a VIP reception ahead of the National Day celebration of Germany.
Also known as Germany Unity Day, it commemorates the reunification of the once-divided Germany.
The summit is organised every two years in an African country.
Ghana hosted it in 2019, so this year's will be the second time.
Describing the visit, which would be President Steinmeier's second time in Ghana within a year as unusual, Mr Landshoft said it was a statement about the importance Germany attached to Ghana.
“A German Federal President visiting Ghana twice within one year is not business as usual.
It is a statement.
A statement about the trust between our countries.
And a statement about where we believe this relationship can go,” he said.
At the summit, he said it would make Ghana a gateway where German and Ghanaian companies would build value chains together.
On economic partnership, he said German companies were looking for markets, partners, skilled people and resilient supply chains, emphasising that their task was to bring those interests to Ghana.
He said German cooperation helped finance Ghanaian entrepreneurs building an integrated textile industry in northern Ghana, and added that GIZ supported skills, standards and access to markets and more than 2000 jobs had already been created. Security, reparatory justice
On security, he said Germany is Ghana's largest bilateral partner in technical and financial cooperation, invested substantial resources in livelihoods, resilience and opportunities, particularly in northern Ghana and through their stabilisation instruments, including the Coastal States Stability Mechanism, it worked with Ghana and international partners to prevent instability before it spreads.
Reacting to President John Mahama's high-level discussion on reparatory justice, he said Germany remained committed to enabling the return of cultural property from colonial contexts and to deepening that dialogue with Ghana.
He said earlier this year, Germany handed over the results of extensive provenance research into four cultural objects from Kpando, comprising two war drums and two war horns. Strong partnership
The Minister of Defence, Kenneth Gilbert Adjei, said Ghana attached great importance to its long-standing relations with Germany, and added that over the years, the two countries had developed a strong partnership founded on mutual respect, trust and cooperation, with significant engagement in the areas of trade and investment, education and skills development, climate action, peace and security, culture, and people-to-people exchange.
He said Ghana greatly valued Germany's support in strengthening its national and regional security capabilities, and added that the cooperation between the German Bundeswehr and the Ghana Armed Forces, including the engagement of German military advisors, had contributed to professional development, institutional strengthening and capacity building.
