The Member of Parliament for La Dadekotopon, Rita Naa Odoley Sowah, has confronted military personnel carrying out demolitions around the La Beach Resort, questioning why the area was being targeted despite government assurances that it would be spared.
Speaking to journalists on Friday, October 2, the MP said she had engaged the relevant authorities ahead of the planned exercise and was told that structures around the Labadi Beach Hotel would not be pulled down.
"I went to where I had to go to, the authorities, and they assured me that Labadi Beach would not be demolished," she said.
Ms Sowah expressed surprise that the demolition had gone ahead, insisting that neither she nor her team had been properly informed.
She said officials later told her the structures were being removed because the land belonged to the Labadi Beach Hotel, an explanation she questioned given the concerns over ownership of the area.
"What has La done?" she asked.
The MP said the situation was made more troubling by reports that military personnel were firing shots and brandishing guns at people at the site.
She stressed that, as the representative of the area, she had been actively engaging the authorities on developments in La and had not been indifferent to the demolition exercise.
