DW's Under the Baobab, a programme focused on dialogue around Africa's pressing social and political issues, has officially been launched in Ghana in partnership with Channel One TV.
The launch, held at the Channel One TV premises in Accra, was themed “Beyond the Welcome: Migration, Xenophobia and Belonging in Africa.”
The programme provides a platform for candid discussions on issues affecting the continent, bringing together diverse perspectives to examine challenges and possible solutions.
Managing Director of Channel One TV, Bernard Avle, described the programme's survival over the past year as a testament to resilience and the importance of creating space for public discourse.
“Modern democracies cannot survive without a place where there is rational public discourse. This partnership is based on shared values. We are all committed to resilient, strong democracies,” he said.

Head of English for Africa at DW, Asumpta Lattus, expressed appreciation to Channel One TV for partnering with DW and hosting the programme in Ghana.
“The show would not have existed if the dedicated team behind me was not in existence. I would also like to express my gratitude to Channel One TV for believing in us and agreeing to host this programme today, which is very important, and also for continuing to do the job that you are doing in Ghana,” she said.
“Thank you for investing in a show that celebrates dialogue and African perspectives,” she added.
The launch brought together students, policymakers and other stakeholders, with Coordinating Director for Political and Economic Affairs at the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, Ambassador Harold Agyeman, among the special guests.
Hosted by Mimi and George Okachi, Under the Baobab features conversations with heads of state, policymakers, young leaders and other stakeholders on politics, social change and issues affecting communities across Africa.
The first edition, following the Ghana launch, will focus on migration and xenophobia, while examining the broader question of belonging and how Africans perceive and relate to one another across national borders.
