The government has stepped up its emergency response to the recent flood disaster in the Hohoe Municipality, deploying substantial consignments of relief items while launching an engineering assessment to address recurring drainage bottlenecks in the area.
The coordinated intervention followed a high-level field assessment of the flood-ravaged communities led by government officials, traditional authorities, and technical experts to evaluate the extent of damage and engage directly with affected residents.
Speaking during the presentation of the items at Hohoe, key stakeholders reassured victims that the government remains resolute in its commitment to ensure no community is left unsupported during the crisis.
To cushion the immediate hardship of affected households, the Ministry of Roads and Highways, the National and Volta Regional Directorate of the Disaster Management Organisation (NADMO), and strategic state partners officially handed over an extensive array of emergency supplies to local distribution authorities.
The distributed items included bags of rice, mattresses, bags of sugar, blankets, cartons of cooking oil, packets of roofing sheets, plastic buckets, mosquito nets and repellents and bags of maize.
To ensure fairness, an ad hoc oversight committee has been tasked with supervising the distribution process, with strict instructions to maintain complete transparency so that materials reach genuinely affected individuals without delay.
Beyond immediate humanitarian aid, engineers from the Hohoe Municipal Assembly, alongside technical teams from relevant state agencies, have commenced technical appraisals to pinpoint structural vulnerabilities and design sustainable drainage interventions to prevent future flooding.
The delegation included the Paramount Chief of the Gbi Traditional Area, Togbega Gabusu VII; Member of Parliament for Hohoe, Mr Thomas Worlanyo Tsekpo; Municipal Chief Executive, Mr Prosper Kumi; and the Volta Regional Director of NADMO, Mr Pascal Agbagba.
