The Ghana Tertiary Education Commission (GTEC) has identified more than 100 tertiary institutions whose recognition status remains unresolved as of September 2026.
In a statement on unrecognised tertiary institutions, the Commission urged prospective students, parents and the general public to exercise caution when dealing with the institutions listed.
GTEC said the affected institutions have not been recognised by the Commission, raising concerns about their operations and the validity of qualifications issued through them.
The Commission advised prospective students to verify the recognition status of any tertiary institution before enrolling to avoid potential difficulties associated with qualifications obtained from unrecognised institutions.
It also urged members of the public to conduct the necessary checks before accepting or relying on certificates issued by institutions on the list.
GTEC stressed the importance of due diligence, particularly for students and parents making decisions about tertiary education, and encouraged them to confirm an institution’s recognition status before committing to its programmes.
