Captaine Smart presents mattresses, chop boxes, trunks to 100 SHS freshers

The National Democratic Congress (NDC) parliamentary aspirant for Gomoa West, Captaine Blessed Godsbrain Smart, has donated mattresses, chop boxes and trunks to 100 first-year Senior High School (SHS) students as part of his educational support initiative.

The presentation was held on Wednesday, September 30, 2026, at the Gomoa Dawurampong Community Centre.

Speaking to journalists after the presentation, Captaine Smart said the initiative was intended to ease the financial burden on parents whose children were entering senior high school by providing some of the essential items required for their education.

He said he was motivated to intervene after learning that some students were unable to begin school because their parents could not afford basic items such as trunks, mattresses and chop boxes.

“I had to find the money at all costs to provide this educational support,” he emphasised.

Smart said his approach to wealth and service was shaped by advice from his grandmother, who taught him that wealth should not be measured by the accumulation of material possessions.

That principle, he said, had continued to guide his commitment to supporting the people of Gomoa West.

“These gestures are part of service to God, and we cannot allow kids to stay home just because of trunks, chop boxes and mattresses,” Smart stressed.

Although he is yet to become a Member of Parliament, the former media personality said he considered the intervention part of his broader vision to improve educational outcomes in the constituency.

He acknowledged that the items provided did not meet all the needs of the beneficiaries but described the gesture as his contribution towards supporting students and their parents.

“This is my token contribution towards our future leaders and to cushion parents whose wards are entering second-cycle institutions.”

Smart also commended parents for the sacrifices they continue to make to educate their children.

“I thank you all parents for what you have done, and this is my token support to your children,” Smart said.

Addressing the students, he encouraged them to remain focused on their education, avoid activities that could undermine their academic progress and respect the rules of their respective schools.

“I pray one day the children from Gomoa would rise to greater heights than some of us have achieved,” he said.

Smart also expressed concern about poverty levels in the Gomoa area and urged the students to make effective use of education as a means of improving their circumstances.

“The poverty levels within Gomoa are high,” Smart noted. “We need to help change that narrative. God bless you all,” he said.

He further appealed to parents to take an active role in monitoring and counselling their children to help them grow into responsible members of society.

The Chief of Gomoa Dawurampong, Nana Kwako Mensah V, commended Smart for the initiative and said he was impressed by the extent of his involvement in the development of Gomoa.

“This event has never been witnessed in my entire life as a traditional leader,” he said, while invoking God’s blessings on the initiative.

Nana Mensah urged the beneficiaries to put the donated items to good use and make their education count.

“Use them to benefit your lives and be of benefit to society at large,” he advised.

He also observed that while traditional leaders should remain above partisan politics, they could support individuals whose initiatives were aimed at benefiting their communities.

The Tufuhemaa of Dawurampong, Nana Aba Nkuma II, similarly praised the initiative, saying she had not witnessed such a gesture before.

She thanked Smart for what she described as his commitment to the development of Gomoa West and urged the students to study hard and become good ambassadors of the support they had received.

“One day, when Mr. Smart is no longer active, all of you gathered here can pay him a visit in his old age, and that will be the greatest payback for his efforts today,” she admonished the students.

Some of the beneficiaries also expressed appreciation for the donation.

“Some of us never expected this, and we are very delighted, and we promise never to disappoint him,” one student said.

Another beneficiary added: “We ask God to bless him so he can continue to support others who come after us.”
