From Reset To Regret Under President Mahama's Watch

From Reset To Regret Under President Mahamas Watch

When President John Dramani Mahama and the NDC campaigned for power, the mantra was "Reset." Ghanaians were promised a new direction, relief from hardship, and a restoration of hope. 1 year 9 month into this reset, the question on the lips of many is simple: Was this the promise?

Ghana today is saddled with a plethora of problems, and the reality on the ground is far from the rosy picture that was painted during the campaign.

The fight against illegal mining, galamsey, has lost steam. Our rivers remain brown, our forest reserves are under siege, and the very canker that the President promised to fight has become more emboldened.

The nation has been hit by disturbing reports of drug trafficking, denting Ghana's international image and raising serious questions about the state of security at our ports and borders.

For the ordinary Ghanaian, the economy bites harder. Fuel prices have seen persistent hikes, triggering a corresponding hike in transport fares. The trotro driver and the market woman feel it daily, while electricity and water tariffs continue to climb without any improvement in service delivery.

Our democracy, once a beacon of hope in Africa, is now under siege. The posture of intolerance, the weaponization of state institutions, and the shrinking of civic space have left many worried.

In our classrooms, teachers have laid down their tools in an industrial strike, leaving the future of our children uncertain. In our cocoa sector, the backbone of our economy, cocoa farmers feel shortchanged and demotivated after years of sacrifice.

And even our source of national pride, the Black Stars, is in shambles, a reflection of a system that seems to be failing in every department.

This is not the reset Ghanaians were promised. This is a relapse.

Your guess is as good as mine.
God save us!
