Nana Afia Serwaa I praised for championing skills training for young women in Goaso

The Principal of High Lady Beautician School in Goaso, Ms Dorothy Bonsu, has lauded the Paramount Queenmother of Goaso, Nana Afia Serwaa I, also Otumfuo’s Betwahemaa, for championing skills training and entrepreneurship to help young women become economically independent.

Ms Bonsu said Nana Afia Serwaa I had been encouraging young girls to acquire practical skills that could help them become self-reliant and create opportunities for themselves.

She said the Queenmother had shown particular interest in helping young women learn trades and develop livelihoods rather than waiting for government employment.

“Nana Afia Serwaa I is devoted to supporting and assisting young girls to acquire skills so they will not always have to rely on the government before they can get something doing,” she said.

Ms Bonsu also spoke about her personal relationship with the Queenmother, describing her as a mother figure who has always been available to offer guidance and support.

“I regard her as my mother because anytime I go to her to seek advice and support, she welcomes me. She always guides me in everything that I do,” she said.

She noted that access to practical skills could give young people the opportunity to earn a living, establish small businesses and support their families.

Ms Bonsu called for greater attention to skills development in the Ahafo Region, particularly programmes that provide young women with practical training and the support needed to establish themselves.

She said continued investment in vocational and entrepreneurial training would give more young women the skills and confidence to build sustainable livelihoods and contribute meaningfully to the development of their communities.
