Togbe Afrika seeks Minister's backing for youth Edu-Entertainment initiative

Veteran Volta Region music icon Paskal Rois, popularly known as Togbe Afrika and now the Honorary Consul of the Republic of Indonesia in Ghana, has unveiled plans to use music and entertainment to promote education and scholarship opportunities for young people in the region.

He described the initiative as Edu-Entertainment, an innovative concept that uses entertainment as an entry point to engage the youth and expose them to educational opportunities.

"I have realised that many young people can spend several hours on TikTok, but when you ask them to spend one hour reading, they are not interested. So I decided to use entertainment to bring them together before introducing them to education," Togbe Afrika explained.

According to him, the platform will be used to connect young people to life-changing prospects, particularly fully funded scholarships to study in Indonesia and other educational pathways.

He noted that his return to music after more than two decades away from the scene is not driven by showbiz alone, but by a desire to impact lives and support regional development.

"My coming back to music after over 20 years is not just for showbiz. It is to support the youth and contribute to the development of the Volta Region," he said.

Togbe Afrika disclosed that the Edu-Entertainment programmes will combine performances by artistes with informative sessions on scholarships and career guidance, facilitated by resource persons in education and related fields.

He revealed that the concept has already been piloted at Dzodze, where it attracted close to 2,000 participants, and outlined plans for expansion.

"We piloted this at Dzodze which pulled nearly 2,000 people. We plan to replicate it in North Tongu, Central Tongu, South Tongu, Hohoe, and Ho, the regional capital. We want Hon. Gunu to take full ownership of the Ho event," he stated.

The Honorary Consul expressed gratitude to the Volta Regional Minister, Hon. James Gunu, for supporting the maiden edition and appealed for sustained collaboration to scale up the initiative.

"I want to thank the Regional Minister for supporting our earlier programme with a police motorcade and personnel to ensure security. We need his continued backing to sustain and expand this initiative," he said.

The initiative was unveiled during a diplomatic courtesy visit to the Volta Regional Minister at the Residency on Sunday, September 27, 2026, where H.E. Paskal A. B. Rois also presented a special honorary music album titled "Woe le Dordzi" to Hon. Gunu in recognition of his contributions to the region.

Reacting to the honour, Hon. James Gunu dedicated the recognition to the entire Volta Region and called on all stakeholders to play their part in accelerating the region's development agenda.

"The development of this region cannot be done by one person. Everyone, chiefs, politicians, youth, and women, has a role to play. Now is the best time to develop the Volta Region. If we fail to act now, we may not know when another opportunity will come," the Minister said, stressing the need for unity and collective responsibility.
