Apostle Adei Jnr urges youth to desist from abusive language on social media

The General Overseer of Promise Word Church International, Apostle Paul Adei Jnr, has urged Ghanaian youth to refrain from using abusive and insulting language against national leaders on social media.

He noted that while citizens have every right to criticize government and political actors, such criticism must be expressed responsibly and without resorting to insults.

Apostle Adei Jnr made the call during the official launch of activities marking the 40th anniversary of the church, scheduled for next year, at Odupong Ofankor near Kasoa in the Awutu‑Senya East District of the Central Region.

He emphasized that criticism is a vital component of democratic governance, but it should never become an excuse for disrespect or offensive attacks on leaders.

Apostle Adei Jnr further urged the clergy and religious leaders across the country to speak against the misuse of social media, particularly the rising trend of abusive comments directed at public officials. He believes responsible use of digital platforms will promote peace, respect and constructive national dialogue.

Speaking on the theme “Celebrating God’s Promise is True", he encouraged Christians to remain steadfast in God’s promise of a brighter future.

Recounting the history of the church, Apostle Adei Jnr explained that Promise Word Church International was founded by his late father, Bishop Kweku Adei, in 1987 and was initially registered as Great Word of God before evolving into its current form, now boasting 36 branches nationwide.

On social responsibility, he highlighted the church’s initiatives, including an orphanage home, a basic school, a football team and farms. He noted that while the church trains the youth academically, its football team also contributes significantly to sporting development.

He added that the church operates a Bible School to strengthen evangelism and promote moral upbringing within the wider society.

The General Overseer advised the youth to cultivate lifestyles that enhance both their financial well‑being and spiritual growth, stressing that such discipline is essential for securing a better future.
