“I’m not only contesting for the position, but for the work that defines it” – Adongo Richmond Nsopika

Adongo Richmond Nsopika, an aspirant for the position of Deputy Youth Organiser of the National Democratic Congress (NDC) in the Bongo Constituency, says his ambition goes beyond occupying a party position, stressing that he is contesting to undertake the responsibilities and work associated with the office.

Speaking to the media after filing his nomination, Mr. Nsopika said his decision to contest was driven by the need to strengthen the participation and opportunities available to polling station youth organisers within the constituency.

"I’m not only contesting for the position of Deputy Youth Organiser, but the work that defines that position,” he said.

According to him, polling station youth organisers have over the years been overlooked when opportunities arise, despite their important role in mobilising and sustaining the party at the grassroots.

He said his objective is to help change that narrative by ensuring that young people who work at the polling station level are given greater attention, recognition and opportunities to contribute to the development of the party.

Mr. Nsopika believes that the strength of the NDC at the constituency level depends significantly on an active and motivated grassroots base, particularly its youth organisers who engage directly with party members and communities.

His campaign, he said, will therefore focus on practical work and creating stronger links between the constituency leadership and polling station youth organisers.

Mr. Nsopika has since successfully undergone the vetting process ahead of the constituency elections and, following the balloting process, secured number 2 on the ballot paper.

Prior to his decision to contest for the Deputy Youth Organiser position, Mr. Nsopika has been serving as the Youth Organiser at his polling station, a role through which he has gained experience in grassroots mobilisation and youth engagement within the NDC.
