THE WORRY DISEASE: Why You Must Stop Worrying And Start Living

Feature Article THE WORRY DISEASE: Why You Must Stop Worrying And Start Living
TUE, 29 SEP 2026

“The greatest tragedy in life is not death, but dying while still alive because you chose worry over living.”

In his classic, The University of Success, Og Mandino wrote: “Feeling sorry for yourself and your present condition is not only a waste of energy but the worst habit you could possibly have.” I could not agree more.

We were created to live life to the fullest. Sadly, most people spend their entire lives in failure and self-pity.

Instead of enjoying the little things in life, they growl and grumble about their difficulties. They must know they are not the only ones facing challenges.

Difficulties are inevitable. Hardships are part of the human curriculum. They must be endured, not worshipped.

When we successfully navigate the pitfalls of life, we sigh with relief and celebrate. That is living.

Logan Pearsall Smith observed: “There are two things to aim at in life: first, to get what you want: and after that, to enjoy it. Only the wisest of mankind achieve the second.” Never live in self-pity. The second aim is the real aim.

Life will not listen to you because you are pitiful and sad. It is you who must listen to life.

The shortest route to a miserable life is to focus your thoughts on what you lack. That list can be endless.

You may not have control over events happening around you, but you have absolute control over how you react to them.

You can turn things around by choosing to look at the bright side of every event. That is how you feel better. That is how you become happy.

Have you heard this story? A man kept grumbling because he had no shoes. Then he stepped into the street and saw a man who had no feet. His whole worldview changed instantly.

My friend, there are many reasons to be grateful.

What would you take in exchange for your eyes? For your hearing? For your ability to walk?

The greatest tragedy in life is not death, but dying while still alive because you chose worry over living. Enjoy the little things.

You can cure yourself of the worry habit. Worry makes life miserable.

It crushes your world. Your happiness flies through the window.

It breeds psychosomatic illnesses – headaches, sleepless nights, high blood pressure.

All that can change. You have the power.

Every morning you wake up, thank God for all you can be grateful for. Thank Him for your life. For your family. For your health.

Do not take the little things for granted. Can you survive for 5 minutes without air?

Thank God for the sun that shines by day and the moon that brightens our nights. Thank Him for good friends who keep you company.

Be grateful for those you share your life with. Thank God for the work that gives you money. Thank God if you are able to care for your family and help others.

The list of gratitude is endless – if you choose to see it.

CONCLUSION
Do not live a life of worry and anxiety. Count your blessings, not your troubles. Learn to enjoy the little things and you will enjoy life to the fullest.

Every morning, go over everything you have to be grateful for. Resolve never to focus your thoughts on lack.
