The Builsa North Member of Parliament and Majority Leader, Hon. James Agalga, has distributed sewing machines, hairdryers and hospital beds to beneficiaries in the constituency as part of efforts to support skills development and healthcare delivery.
The items, comprising 128 sewing machines, 100 hairdryers and 10 hospital beds, were presented on Saturday, September 26, 2026, at the Sandema Durbar Grounds.
The ceremony brought together beneficiaries and dignitaries from the five zones of the constituency, namely Kadema, Wiaga, Siniensi, Chuchuliga and Sandema.
The sewing machines and hairdryers are intended for young people undergoing training under the National Apprenticeship Programme, in line with a campaign commitment made by President John Dramani Mahama.
Support for apprentices
Hon. Agalga said the equipment would help apprentices acquire the tools needed to establish their own businesses after completing their training.
He explained that the machines would initially be distributed among groups of trainees, with additional equipment expected to be provided to enable each beneficiary to eventually have a machine.
He also indicated plans to extend similar support to other artisans in the constituency, including masons, carpenters and barbers.
Hospital beds donated
The 10 hospital beds were presented to the Builsa North Municipal Health Directorate to support healthcare delivery.
The Municipal Health Director, Dr Cabral Bantiu, and the Medical Superintendent, Dr Edwin Sanwie, received the beds on behalf of the Directorate.
They expressed appreciation to the MP and assured him that the equipment would be properly maintained and put to effective use in caring for patients.
The donation adds to other forms of support Hon. Agalga has provided to health facilities in Sandema, including medical equipment and supplies.
MP declines to disclose funding source
Addressing questions about the source of funding for the items, Hon. Agalga declined to disclose details publicly.
He said individuals who were genuinely interested in knowing how the donations were financed could engage him privately, but he did not identify any particular donor, personal funding source or institution behind the initiative.
The issue generated discussion at the event, particularly regarding transparency surrounding constituency-level donations by Members of Parliament.
Agalga cautions against political claims
Hon. Agalga also cautioned constituents against attributing the donations to initiatives or programmes of the opposition New Patriotic Party (NPP).
He urged residents to disregard any claims that the items were provided as a result of interventions initiated by the previous administration before it left office in 2024.
The distribution forms part of Hon. Agalga’s stated efforts to support skills training, entrepreneurship and healthcare delivery in the Builsa North Constituency.
